Irrigation Schedule

HERITAGE PALMS MANDATORY WATERING RESTRICTIONS

Effective November 1, 2023 - June 1, 2024

These mandatory restrictions specify the time and the days of the week when watering is permitted for residential locations.  These days depend on whether the address ends in an odd or even number. Irrigation is currently permitted for a maximum of TWO days a week.

Irrigation Schedule by District
The below schedule has been developed to allot for the greatest savings while still providing the necessary pressure from the Club’s pumping facility to irrigate the community, common grounds, and golf courses more efficiently during off-peak hours. Please note there are two distinct time periods per district, based upon your address in addition to designated days.

Districts 1 & 4, Tuesday & Saturday
Even Address (1am to 5am) Odd Address (9pm to 1am)
District 1: Terrace VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, XIV @ Lakeside Greens, Terrace I, II and III @ Royal Greens
District 4: Villas I and II @ Pineview

Districts 2 & 3, Wednesday & Sunday
Even Address (1am to 5am) Odd Address (9pm to 1am)
District 2: Terrace I, II, III, IV, V, VI, XV, XVI and XVII @ Lakeside Greens, Terrace I and II @ Fairway Isle
District 3: Villas I, II and III @ Lakemont

Districts 5 & 6, Monday & Thursday
Even Address (1am to 5am) Odd Address (9pm to 1am)
District 5: Veranda I, II and III @ Twin Lakes , Veranda I and II @ Royal Greens
District 6: Veranda I, II, III, IV, V and VI @ Fairway Isle, Verandas @ McArthur Palm

Districts 7 & 8, Monday & Thursday
Even Address (1am to 5am) Odd Address (9pm to 1am)
Districts 7 & 8: All Single Family Homes

The time for individual irrigation zones should be set for a maximum of 20 minutes to water grass and 10 minutes for plants and shrubs during this time of year. Automatic rain gauges should also be checked to insure they are working properly.  A healthy landscape only needs 1-inch to 1.5 inches of water per week during summer growing season and only as needed to supplement rainfall.  During the winter season, when a lawn goes dormant, it requires even less.

Homeowners, condo and villa associations utilizing landscape/irrigation companies should immediately notify their respective company of the mandated watering restriction.

The above schedule supersedes any SFWMD/Lee County/City of Fort Myers published watering restrictions. With the onset of the summer rainy season, the need for supplemental irrigation watering is minimized and not necessary if lawns receive one half (1/2) inch rainfall per week.

The Heritage Palms irrigation system uses only recycled water as mandated by the City of Fort Myers at a cost of $.73 / 1000 gallons. Remember, Heritage Palms uses 100% reclaimed water for irrigation. The use of the reclaimed water has an economic impact on all residents and you are requested to follow the rules for irrigation with care.

Community Safety Officer, Dan Davis will monitor the community and notify residents not in compliance with stipulated restrictions. He will also check timers for compliance and change timers to comply with the restrictions if necessary.

NOTE ABOUT GOLF COURSE IRRIGATION –

At times you will notice golf course irrigation running after a rain event and wonder ‘why is the golf course getting water after a rainfall?’ The golf course and (especially the greens) are designed to flush water. Unlike your yard, the greens have intricate layers of sand based materials and drainage systems to remove surface water. This, as well as being cut at a height of 100th of an inch, dictates the manner in which they are irrigated. Also, the grass is a different species than that of yard grass and requires much more complex agronomical practices and cultivation including chemical and fertilizer regimens. Put all this together and you can see that there is no similarity to how yard grass and golf course grasses are grown and cared for. Thus, unless there is an irrigation malfunction, the course is being irrigated following detailed procedures of management and numerous daily tests checking soil moisture content and fertility. The golf course staff is very aware of the need to conserve water when possible and makes every attempt to plan all agronomic practices keeping in mind the overall health of the turf and conservation of water.

Irrigation Leaks

When reporting an irrigation leak, please be prepared to answer the following questions.
   •  What is the address of the leak?
   •  Is it a Single Family Home, Villa, Terrace or Veranda?
   •  Is this an Emergency? Is the water gushing or fast flowing quickly
or is it a Noticeable Leak? Something that can it wait until morning
   •  Is the leak located close to the home/association building or is it close to the street or in
      common ground area?

Single Family Homes & Villas:
If the irrigation leak is between the service valve and the home, it is your responsibility.  You will need to contact your irrigation company.
If the irrigation leak is between the service valve and the street, it is the responsibility of the Golf Maintenance Department.

Terraces & Verandas:
If the irrigation leak is close to the building, you will need to contact your association president or your management company.  If you are unsure of who these contacts are the information is available above.
If the irrigation leak is outside of the areas adjacent to the building and in common ground areas maintained by the Club, it is the responsibility of the Golf Maintenance Department.

How to report to the Golf Maintenance Department:
   • Monday- Friday 8AM - 3:30PM, please call 239-278-9090 EXT. 157
   • If the leaks need to be reported over the weekend or Monday – Friday between 3:31pm-8:00am, please contact the Gatehouse at 239-277-9273.

Low or No Water Pressure Inside Your Home:  Heritage Palms does not control the water within your home.  If you do not have potable water, you need to contact your Association President or the City of Fort Myers Utility at 239-321-8100.  If the City of Fort Myers does not indicate that there is any water shut off, you will need to contact a plumber.

Low Water Pressure

When you turn on the faucet in the shower and only two little streams of water come out of the showerhead, or when you turn on the sink faucet and instead of a stream of water, a few drips come out. Plumbers call this low flow, homeowners call it low water pressure. Luckily, there are ways to solve this problem. First, it is important to understand what the causes of low water pressure can be. Some of these causes can be: Debris in the water, mineral deposit build-up, low pressure to the house, water valves or water leak.

Identifying what is causing the problem is the first step toward properly repairing it. Although, in some cases, you will simply have to troubleshoot the problem by exploring all of the possible causes and making the necessary repairs. A really common cause of low flow is stuff in the water. If you have old metallic pipes, these could rust, and rust breaks loose and plugs up aerators, valve, and anywhere there is a restriction in the pipes. If the sink faucet doesn't work well, take off the aerator (that little cylinder screwed on the end of the spout) and see how the water flows without it. If the water flow is fine, clean or replace the aerator. If the water flow is still bad, the problem is downstream. This is a little bit of trouble, but if you want to see if a faucet is plugged up, shut off the valves to the sink, disconnect the supply pipes from the shutoff valves to the faucet, point them into a bucket, turn the valves on, and see if a lot of water comes out. If it does, may be the problem is inside of the faucet. If not, it is the supply valve or supply piping that is plugged.

Low Water Pressure from the water supplier.  You can test for low water pressure by buying a water pressure test gauge with a hose connection, and screw it on to a hose faucet. Test it with all fixtures in the house off. It is recommended that a water distribution system maintains a working pressure between 35 to 50 psi.

Turning Your House Main Shutoff Valves
Valves turn, which means these valves sometimes get accidentally moved or turned off without the homeowner realizing it. There is usually a main water valve in a home. If this main water valve is not shut off or if it is not completely turned on, it will affect all of the water flow in the home.  Be sure the main water valve is completely turned on if you are having a water pressure problem. Also, if the valve is built without a full size passage, it will not supply as much flow as a valve with full size passage.  A plumber can often tell by looking at a valve if it does have a full size passage. Your water heater also should have a main shutoff for the water. If it is restricted or partially off, you might get low flow for the hot water in the house.

Repairing Water Leaks
Cracks or damage to water pipes servicing you house can cause water leaks. Water leaks can cause low water pressure because not all of the water is making its way to your faucet. Some of it is leaking through the cracked or damaged pipe. Check your pipes for damage or leaks. A trick to figuring out if you have a leak in the main pipe is to shut off the water valve in your home and mark down the meter reading showing on your water meter. Come back two hours later and read the water meter reading again. If the meter reading increases, then you have a leak.

Take Care of Mineral Deposit Build-Ups
Over time, pipes can experience mineral deposit build-ups. These build-ups clog faucets and showerheads, preventing full water pressure. Try cleaning out the faucet heads and showerheads in your home to see if this alleviates the low water pressure problem. If this does not resolve the problem and you believe it is a mineral deposit build-up causing your low water pressure, then you may have to call a professional plumber to assess and correct the problem.

Hiring a Pro
You can try to diagnose your low water pressure problem on your own and test solutions to see if it resolves the problem. If you cannot correct the problem on your own, then you are going to have to hire a professional plumber. There are also problems that you just cannot resolve on your own no matter how much of a do-it-yourselfer you are. Corrosion of your pipes, major blockage problems, or major leaks are all problems better left to the pros.

Heritage Palms does not supply your potable water.   You can report your low water pressure to the Fort Myers Public Works - Ph: 239-321-8100.  The City will make arrangements to test the water pressure on their side of the meter and determine if the fire hydrants need flushed.
